 Exhibitions at the 2006 Symposium
This year the AAW is organizing 3 separate exhibitions which will open in conjunction with the symposium.
  • "Step Up to the Plate" - an exhibition of works from juried and invited artists. The exhibit will be on display at the Louisville Slugger Museum. Opening will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.  There will be a special entry for AAW members at the Museum - look for direction signs.
  • "Turning 20 - Still Evolving" - an exhibition showcasing the work of 22 artists who were studio turners in 1986, the founding year of the AAW, and are still active studio turners today. There will be three pieces from each artist, one from 1986, another from 1996, and a current day piece to show the kind of evolution that has taken place in woodturning. The exhibit will be at the Kentucky Museum of Art.
  • "Rude Osolnik Exhibit" - a retrospective show of a Kentucky native one and one of the giants in our craft. The exhibit will also be on display at the Kentucky Museum of Art. Opening will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. Woodturning demonstrations are also planned.
As part of the symposium events, the 22 featured turners in the "20 Years - Still Evolving" exhibit have been invited for a booksigning event on Wednesday, June 21 at the Kentucky Museum of Art. You won't want to miss this historic evening.

The exhibits will be open to the public. The "Step Up to the Plate" exhibit and the "Turning 20 - Still Evolving" exhibit will also be exhibited at other venues after the AAW Symposium concludes.

You have 55 BIG reasons to register to come to the Louisville AAW Symposium. For door prizes, how about FIVE Oneway 2436 lathes free, thanks to special pricing from Oneway Manufacturing or FIFTY $100 gift certificates donated by Packard Woodworks?

 Youth Programs

There will be a room where Bonnie Klein and Nick Cook will teach hands on classes to young people ages 10 through 17. The youth can register FREE when accompanied by a fully registered adult. As we did last year, we will give away 25 JET Midi lathes with stands, 25 sets of Crown tools, 25 Nova Midi-chucks and 25 face shields to 25 of the lucky youths. (Bring your kids or grandkids)...click here for Youth Registration

 Donate turned items for Charity

During our AAW Symposium each year, we have a "return to the community" project. This year in Louisville, we will collect Christmas ornaments. They will be delivered to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville. Each year the hospital collects ornaments and decorated trees and auctions them or sells them outright to raise money. Last year they raised almost $400,000 to help the kids in need. All AAW local chapters are urged to turn as many Christmas ornaments as they can and either bring them to the symposium or mail them to Greg Streif, 7308 Abbott Glen Dr., Crestwood, Ky., 40014 gregstreif@insightbb.com.

This is a great opportunity for your chapter members to have some real fun while building their turning skills and at the same time, help sick kids in need. What a deal!

The savings will cover my rental car (prices are cheaper on expedia.com by about $70 than to go through the AAW Avis contact also by the way).  Net savings $70+ could buy a nice tool at the vendor gallery!"
