AAW Forum Turning Contest

Spring 2008 Results

About the Contest

The Spring 2008 AAW Forum woodturning contest results are in. Congratulations to Pascal Oudet, the first place contest winner. This was the 13th turning contest held on the AAW forums. The theme was patterned after the POP (professional Outreach Program) exhibit "Spheres" shown on page 40-41 of the Spring 2008 (Vol 23 No1) editions of American Woodturner. The contests winners are:

First place - Pascal Oudet for his red planet sphere
Second place - Barbara Crockett for her frog cookie jar
Third place - Roger Zimmermann for his protozoan simulacrum

The AAW would like to thank Andi Wolfe for judging this contest. Andi’s comments: First of all, I’d like to congratulate all of the artists who submitted their work for the contest. The work was very creative, and it was fun for me to see all of the different ideas and interpretations of the sphere motif. It was certainly not easy to narrow down the field to a short list of three winning entries.

If you would like to consider entering the next contest, watch for announcements in the AAW forums.

Pascal Oudet winning contest entry :

After making several black and blue planets, this is my first red one.

4" diameter, chestnut burl, hollowed (then plugged with a piece of the same burl so the opening is hidden), sandblasted, dyed and limed.
