WINTER HARBOR — Turning wood into a bowl, plate, child’s spinning top and other objects is at the heart of an upcoming series of workshops being taught by Gouldsboro resident Mike Summerer.

Hosted by Schoodic Arts for All, Summerer will teach Introductory Woodturning I from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at his studio in Prospect Harbor village. The class, limited to four people at least 12 years old, will cover lathe safety, operation, sharpening and related tools. Each participate will create a “honey” dipper, spinning top and a writing pen with a wood-turned barrel. The cost is $45 per person, including materials.

On Thursday, Jan. 21, from 1 to 4:30 p.m., Summerer with follow with Introductory Woodturning II. Previous lathe experience is recommended. The class will focus on basic now turning and decoration.

“Woodturning: Special Topics” will conclude the series on Wednesday, Jan. 27, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Participants will focus on special projects of interest to them.
