Life is a journey. We all start somewhere and end up somewhere else. Depending on where we are born and when, on the influence of others, and on sometimes seemingly random events, our course is influenced and shaped.

As a turner, you are part of a legacy that stretches back more than 2,000 years. You are practicing a craft that looks forward into the future, kept vibrant and ever-evolving by technical innovations and new creative discoveries.

Woodturning is a part of our life experience that is shaped by who and what we know. For this exhibition we are asking that you create new work that reflects what you have learned and who (or what) has inspired you.

In 100 words or fewer describe how you came to make the work that you are submitting to this exhibition. You are free to use any media, but the work must be created at least partially on the lathe.

Locations: AAW International Woodturning Symposium, Raleigh Convention Center, Raleigh, North Carolina. AAW Gallery of Wood Art. Landmark Center, Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Prizes: Masters' Choice $300, People's Choice $200

Opening Reception: Thursday, July 11. Awards announcement Saturday, July 13.

Eligibility: Open to any member of the AAW, and to full-time students in art, design, or industry-related degree programs, regardless of membership status.

All types of turnings are welcome: sculptural, functional, segmented, ornamental, green-turned, etc. Work must be at least partially turned on the lathe, and relate to the exhibition theme of Continuum.

All work must be original. Any work found to be directly imitative of another artist's work will be automatically disqualified unless addressed in the theme statement. Submitted artwork may be for sale, but not required to be so.
