Form | Content 2023 Professional Outreach Program (POP) Exhibition

Submission Dates: December 1, 2022 - January 15, 2023

The Professional Outreach Program is pleased to announce the 2023 exhibition theme, Form | Content. Since 2007, the annual POP show and auction, featuring small-scale works by an international roster of talented emerging and established artists, has been a highlight of the year. As a theme, Form | Content offers many different possibilities: from statements on pure craft (the form is the full meaning or purpose), to thinking about how we use wood, shape, texture, color, surface design, etc. to convey meaning beyond function and beyond. As a play on words, ‘content’ can also refer to the state of being content, or to the contents of a container, since turners are often vessel makers and vessels hold content(s). The theme makes space for all forms of turning.

Special Interest Sessions - AAW Symposium 2023

Back by popular demand, we’ll kick off the 2023 Symposium in Louisville with Special Interest Sessions. Special Interest Sessions are member-led sessions intended to introduce attendees to specialty woodturning groups and communities as well as facilitate discussion on woodturning topics.  Planning to attend the Symposium and want to lead a Special Interest Session? Complete the application by October 15, 2022 for consideration. Selected session coordinators will be notified around December 1, 2022.

POP Artist Showcase 2023

Application deadline: October 1, 2022

Each year the Professional Outreach Program (POP) showcases two wood artists at the AAW’s Annual International Symposium. They are either experienced artists who have made significant contributions to the woodturning field but have not received appropriate recognition, or emerging artists who have the potential to make significant contributions to the field. The two selected artists give two demonstrations each, and participate in a panel discussion of their work led by David Ellsworth. Artists receive a complimentary Symposium registration; a featured display in the Special Exhibitions area; demonstration and panel compensation; three days of lodging at the AAW host hotel, and up to $300 in travel expenses. Applications will be accepted August 15, 2022 through October 1, 2022.
