Robert "Bob" Jensen, Fridley, MN

 

The Minnesota Woodturners Association (MWA) will make a donation to Beads of Courage (BOC) in his name and encourage all members to make box for BOC in honor of Bob Jensen.

Remembrance from Bob Meyer and Ken Schwichtenberg.

  • Bob joined the Minnesota Woodturners Association in April 2001.
  • He stored the club lathes and accessories at his house for many years.
  • Built the wooden boxes to hold the accessories for each club lathe.
  • Hosted club hands-on training sessions at his shop for many years.
  • Hosted pro hands-on training session at his shop for many years. Several pros stayed at Bob's house.
  • Hosted club board of directors meetings at his house for years and even after he was no longer on the board.
  • Was club video librarian and member of board of directors for years.
  • Built ramps for moving the big lathe down the auditorium steps at Minnesota Center for Arts and Technology (MCAT) when pro demos were held at that facility.
  • Did club demos at various events for the club at places like Rockler, Woodcraft, and at wood shows.
  • Demoed at AAW Gallery of Wood Art 4 or 5 times per year up to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Was national club liaison and coordinator for the AAW Symposium in 2011 when MWA was host club for the international event.
  • Made a set of Indian Tom-Tom drums for the theme exhibit at the 2009 Albuquerque AAW Symposium. Ws one of 30 turners selected for this honor.
  • Held a four-day Christmas craft sale at his house for many years.
  • Had a booth at Minneapolis Farmers market for many years where he sold bowls and all of the craft projects he made.
  • Helped many members who stopped at his shop for a chat, and maybe needed some turning advice, or were looking for a certain type or size of wood.
  • Coordinated the chapter's Craft Supplies orders for years.
  • Supported Beads of Courage monetarily and by making ball and cup games for the kids and their siblings.
  • Bob was good friends with many MWA members, past and current.
  • Bob will be missed.
