Keith Notely, Kingston, Ontario

Following a recent diagnosis of Leukemia, Keith Roger Notley (86) passed away peacefully on March 1, 2024, with his loving family by his side.

Keith was born in St. Austell, Cornwall, U.K. on September 16, 1937 to Mae and Marwood Notley. He grew up in Cornwall where he joined the army and studied at the Camborne School of Mines. While on furlough from the army, he met the love of his life, Yvonne Ann, through her brother, Ian Pollard.

Keith and Yvonne were married in England on March 30, 1959, and immigrated to Canada (Sudbury, ON) shortly afterward. He began working at the Falconbridge Nickel Mines, and it was in Sudbury where they started their family and made some lifelong friends.

To further his career, Keith moved Yvonne and their three children to Kingston, Ontario where he attended Queen's University and received his Doctorate in Mining Engineering. He was a full professor in the Mining and Engineering Department at Queen's for several years and then moved with Yvonne to Australia where, for the next 10 years, he continued his professorship of Mining Engineering at the University of Adelaide. Keith and Yvonne began their retirement in Australia, exploring the beautiful country for another 18 months before moving back to Kingston in the summer of 2000.

Throughout his life, Keith shared his beautiful tenor voice, joining several choirs, and travelling far and wide to sing in many competitions. Up until his brief illness, he was a member of three local choirs!

Keith was also beautifully skilled in the art of woodturning, often commissioned to create his artistic pieces for others. For several years, he was heavily involved in the Kingston Woodturners Association.

His passing has left a huge hole in the hearts of his loving wife, Yvonne, and their three children Daryl Notley (Lynn), Duncan Notley (Colleen), and Lorna Jodoin. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren: Krystina Notley, Chantal and Eric Jodoin, and Jacob and Daniel Notley. He is predeceased by grandsons, Colin Jodoin and Andrew Notley. Lexie, his little fur puppy will also be missing her Daddy and the continuous treats.

From his U.K. family, he is survived by his siblings Mary O'Mara (Philip deceased), John (Margaret), Chris (Stephanie) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Jill (Bob) Wilmington; his stepmother, Janie Notley; and his parents, Marwood and Mae Notley.

Keith will be lovingly remembered for his creativity, his clever sense of humour and his beautiful tenor voice which he shared enthusiastically with everyone.
