Gary Little, Salmon Arm, BC, Canada
Gary
was born in Dauphin, Manitoba in 1939 and grew up in Brandon, Manitoba.
After graduating from high school, Gary attended the University of
Manitoba where he studied engineering for two years. He took a year off
from school and worked for the Department of Highways. Subsequently, he
returned to the University of Manitoba where he graduated with a degree
in education. Gary met Gerry while in high school and they were married
in 1961 in Brandon.
Gary started his teaching career in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba in
1961. After 34 years, he retired as Superintendent CEO of the Portage La
Prairie School Division.
Gary worked as a volunteer with several community organizations over
the years. He was a founding member of the Portage Foundation and
President of Lions Club. Gary received the Queen Elizabeth II Golden
Jubilee Medal for volunteerism in 2002. Shortly after he retired, he
took up various forms of woodworking. Gary loved woodturning, golfing,
and traveling.
In August 2013, after 53 years in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Gary
and Gerry moved to Salmon Arm, B.C. Gary continued with his golf and
woodturning. They joined the Probus Club of Salmon Arm in 2013 where
Gary was president in 2015.
Gary and Gerry have three children and two granddaughters. Lisa Cham,
retired restauranteur, lives in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Sandy Little
(partner Reg Fogarty, daughter Molly Fogarty), lives in Salmon Arm;
retired in 2021 from teaching and counseling from the Salmon Arm
District 83. Bruce Little (partner Julie Hackett, daughter Sarah
Little), owner of a film and television post-production company in
Winnipeg, Manitoba.
September 22, 2024, family by his side, Gary passed away peacefully.
