AAW'S 34th Annual International Symposium

COVID-19 and the 2020 AAW Symposium

Due to the seriousness of COVID-19, and adhering to international, federal, and state advisories and legal impossibility mandates, the AAW Board of Directors unanimously approved the cancellation of the 2020 AAW Symposium on March 30, 2020.

Complete details about the cancellation, including process for full registration refunds and future plans, will be provided very soon. As we continue to address the impacts of this challenging situation, we thank you for your patience, understanding, flexibility, and support. Charitable Activities

Beads of Courage

AAW members create and donate woodturned boxes to non-profit Beads of Courage. Through the Beads of Courage, children receive a unique bead to represent each procedure or treatment in a serious illness. For example, a red bead for each blood transfusion, a yellow bead for each night in the hospital, a star bead for surgery, a white bead for chemotherapy. Their collection of beads becomes a tangible record of their journey. Each turned box will be used to hold a sick child's precious beads.

Woodturners: Donate a Woodturned Box
Make, bring along, and donate a handmade lidded box to hold the beads of a child coping with serious illness through Beads of Courage. NO PAINT! If you are interested in making and donating a wooden box for Beads of Courage, please click here for more information and specifications.

Empty Bowls

AAW members create and donate woodturned bowls (and other turned items), which are sold in the Instant Gallery during the national symposium each year to raise money for a local nonprofit in the city hosting the symposium. Large or small, each bowl costs only $25.

100% of the 2020 proceeds will support Stormhaven Youth Ranch.

About Stormhaven Youth Ranch

A relationship with a horse can prove love to a heart that feels unlovable, and can go where no human being is allowed to enter—inside that wounded heart.  When a child learns of a rescued horse’s painful past, he is stirred with compassion, relating to the sorrow he feels in his own life.  One of the greatest steps to healing is reaching out beyond ourselves to others.  A horse can be the first step.

At Stormhaven Youth Ranch we rescue horses. From the neglected to the abused, to the lonely and forgotten, we provide a safe haven where they can learn to trust and love again. No matter what the children are facing in their lives they can run away to a little ranch where horses and children bond, offering each other that hope and unconditional love that we all yearn for in our unstable world.
