- At the 2011 AAW Symposium, in Saint Paul, youth (ages 10 through 17) may receive free registration. Each youth must be accompanied by a registered adult. In addition, subject to availability, the youth will receive a free banquet ticket when accompanied by an adult who has purchased a banquette ticket. Banquet tickets are limited, so late registrants may not get them.
- HANDS-ON CLASSES: Review the Symposium Planning Guide for details about the Symposium schedule
- EQUIPMENT DRAWING: A drawing for the equipment used in the youth program will be conducted on the Saturday of the symposium. Only those youth members who are registered, have actually participated in one of the classes, and have not previously won a lathe will be eligible for the drawing. More information will be provided when the class registration confirmations are sent to the youth participants, about 2-3 weeks prior to the Symposium
- SPONSORS: Review the Symposium Planning Guide for details about the Symposium schedule
- INSTRUCTORS: Review the Symposium Planning Guide for details about the Symposium schedule
- VOLUNTEERS: The hands-on classes succeed only through the generosity of our assistant instructor volunteers. Each year volunteers generously give their time to help our instructors and give individual attention to students. We are looking for AAW chapters or individuals to volunteer their support - 15 assistants are needed for each class session.
- INSTANT GALLERY: There will be a table set aside for Youth Turning Projects. This calls attention to the skill and talent our younger members possess as well as providing a meeting place for our youth to talk woodturning. Think of the tremendous impact on creative young minds when they see the Instant Gallery, watch world-class demonstrators, and visit the Trade Show. This is your opportunity to change a life and help create a new woodturner. Also there will be a special section in the Instant Gallery for youth.
- As we expect to have more youth registrations than lathes, and to make it as fair as possible for all, we will be conducting a "lottery" for hands-on area turning classes, with an appropriate number of class rotations so that all youth who wish to participate in the hands-on activities can do so. To facilitate the lottery, we ask that your Registration Form and Parental Release Waiver be submitted no later than May 15, 2011.
