At the 2007 Symposium, June 29 through July 1 in Portland, Oregon, all registered attending youths (ages 10 through 17) will receive free admittance ($75 value) and free Saturday night banquet attendance when accompanied by a registered adult. As an incentive to register and bring your son, daughter, niece, nephew, grandchild, or the kid down the block, a Saturday “kids-only” drawing will award 25 complete turning outfits to our Youth Program participants, including...WMH Tool Group (JET Mini lathes with stands), Teknatool International (Nova Precision midi-chucks and dead cup drive centers), Crown Tools (basic tool set), Dust Bee Gone (safety goggles), and Woodcraft Supplies (face shields). Freight from Portland will be the responsibility of the winners. At the Saturday night banquet, all youth participants in the program will be recognized for their achievement. Wait, there’s more great news. During the three-day symposium, all of the donated equipment will be used in a hands-on rotation room. Bonnie Klein and Nick Cook will conduct hands-on workshops for the youth. We are looking for AAW chapters or individuals to volunteer their support - 25 assistants are needed to help Bonnie and Nick with the workshops. If you would like to volunteer, please get in touch with the AAW office: 651-484-9094. Think of the tremendous impact on creative young minds when they see the Instant Gallery, watch world-class demonstrators, and visit the trade show. This is your opportunity to change a life and help create a new woodturner. As we expect to have more youth registrations than lathes, and to make it as fair as possible for all, we will be conducting a "lottery" for hands-on area turning classes, with an appropriate number of class rotations so that all youth who wish to participate in the hands-on activities can do so. To facilitate the lottery, we ask that your Registration Form and Parental Release Waiver be submitted no later than May 15, 2007.
