Highlights of the 2005 Symposium |
- Three days of terrific demonstrations by international, national and regional
turners recognized in the field
- Panel discussions
- An Instant Gallery of those attending and Chapter Collaborative Projects
- The annual AAW banquet and auction for the educational fund.
- The complete woodturner's trade show.
- A Gallery Exhibit titled - "reTURN to the Land of Oz" - the exhibit will be in the

Collaborative Projects are open to the public.
The 2005 Nineteenth Annual AAW National Symposium is open to
anyone with an interest in woodturning.

| Donate turned Tops, Toys, and Pens for Charity |
|
(updated 5/23/05) Donations of Tops, Toys, and Pens for a charity auction will be accepted at the instant gallery registration desk.
Please consider donating one or more items. In 2004, over 200 items were donated.
Items for 2005 will directly benefit patients of the Childrens' Mercy Hospital
The hospital is looking for new items to be distributed to patients (children) and
the families of patients. Patients are 0-18 yrs.of age. The donations will be given directly to the patients, their
siblings, and their families. Only new items are accepted. Some of these children are very sick. Just think
about how a nice woodturning could help light up their life!

| Demonstrations |
|
Friday morning will start with opening remarks at 8:00 a.m.,
followed by demonstrations given on a rotational basis for three
days by international, national, regional, and local talent. Demonstrations
end at 3:15 p.m. Sunday.

Special presentations at the symposium will include:

| Trade Show and Vendors |
Trade Show:
Leading manufacturers and suppliers will display tools, equipment,
and supplies of particular interest to woodturners. The Trade
Show is open to the public at no charge. The Trade Show will not be
open on Thursday.

2005 Exhibition pictures from "reTURN to the Land of OZ"
This wonderful tradition of past symposiums is open to all attendees.
Please bring up to three of your own turned creations to share
with others. The gallery will be open to the public and the community,
as well as to the symposium participants displaying more than 900 pieces.
A Penturners Instant Gallery will also display items.

| Bulletin Board and Photo Wall |
A bulletin board is available for people to post messages. Also
a photo wall-anyone is welcome to bring pictures of interesting
or humorous lathes, jigs, tips, or turnings. Also, bring copies
of your chapter newsletter to share.

| Included Special Symposium Events |
- Annual Banquet and Auction - Raised over $48,000 for
the educational fund last year. A record $68,000 was raised during the 2005 auction.
- 2005 Chapter Collaborative Challenge
- "reTURN to the Land of Oz" Exhibition Juried Exhibition
- the exhibits will be displayed in the Convention Center.
- Future Symposium Exhibitions
The AAW would like to advertise the
exhibition show for next year so that our members
have some time to think about them and design a piece around the theme. The 2006 title is:
2006 - "Step Up to the Plate"

| Spouse Information |
Spouse Attendance: Special spouse rate of $125 allows
spouses to attend the conference at a reduced rate. NOTE: Spouse
registration is required only if your spouse wishes to attend
the demonstrations.
Spouse/Family Activities: Several daily
chartered tours have been scheduled for "non-turners":

- Thursday, July 21, 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. - Registration/Check
in at the Overland Park Convention Center. (Registration also
on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 7:45 am)
- Saturday, July 23, 5:30 pm to 6:30 PM - Social Hour, followed
by the Banquet/Auction at 7:00 PM at the Convention Center Ballroom.
- Friday-Sunday: Rotational Demonstrations, Friday and Saturday,
9 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday 9a.m. - 3:15 p.m.
