The 2000 Symposium of the AAW - Charlotte, North Carolina

Charlotte 2000 Instant Gallery Each participant in the AAW annual symposia are invited to bring pieces for the Instant Gallery. This gallery is usually the largest accumulated gallery of woodturnings gathered in one place each year. Each year, the symposium attendees bring an amazing array of pieces from all skill levels: professional to amateur, novice to expert; all are welcome. In a table below is a sampling of the gallery pieces. You can click on the name of the artist to see a page with the photo or start at the beginning to navigate through the entire gallery.

The pieces for the gallery are checked in at the front desk to give them unique numbers for security. This assures that the pieces get back to the people who brought them. This desk is monitored by volunteers from the local chapters and a board member who is responsible for the gallery at the symposium. This year Charles Farrar of the North Carolina Woodturners did a great job along with his experienced crew.

On the third day of the symposium (usually on Sunday morning), respected artists and woodturners provide a critique for the accumulated crowd. This is a session where prospective studio turners and general attendees can hear analyses of specific pieces in the gallery. This year David Ellsworth and Stoney Lamar provided the critique. A video tape of the gallery overview and the critique will be available in late 2000. Please check out the AAW video page for more information on this and past symposium tapes.
