Allan Batty Allan Batty, England. Alan has a lifetime of turning experience, both as a teacher and a production turner steeped in the traditions of the English woodturning trade.
  • Spindle turning: Skew chisel, twists, and workshop tips.
  • Hand thread chasing: Variety of hand threaded boxes.
  • Secret Box or square bowl: Spherical bowls with secret entrances and various designs of square bowls.
Trent BoschTrent Bosch, Fort Collins, CO. Trent creates wooden sculptures in the form of bowls and vessels. His works are initially created on the lathe but then are extensively manipulated after they are taken off the lathe.
  • Vessels of Illusion: Techniques for making a hollow form vessel that appears to contain another vessel.
  • Wood Manipulation: Techniques such as carving, bleaching, sandblasting and dyeing.
David EllsworthDavid Ellsworth, Quakertown, PA. David, the first president of the AAW, is a professional turner and teacher, who has demonstrated around the world. He developed many techniques, notably on hollow forms, and has been a major force in the development of woodturning as an art form.
  • Open Bowl With Natural Edge Top: Starting from a log and using a jam chuck to turn off base.
  • Miniature Hollow Forms: Using home made tools and a vacuum chuck.
Irene GafertIrene Gafert, Denmark. From 1995-97 Irene studied wood and metals at an Arts school in Denmark. In her second year she learned the basics of woodturning and has continued her development through workshops, seminars and from individual artists.
  • Coloring Wood: Techniques and effects of dyes, acrylics and watercolors on turnings.
  • Leaf Metal As Decoration: Different types and application of leaf metal. Patination and other effects.
Kurt JohannsonKurt Johannson, Sweden. From 1964 to 1997 Kurt was a woodworking teacher, while also working as a woodturner. During this time he developed new tools and equipment and was part of a woodturning video. He is known as the Òhook and ring tool manÓ because he reinvented the tool several years ago.
  • Bottles and Boxes: Hollowing out a bottle using hook tools and a box using a ring tool.
  • Bowls in End-grain and Cross-grain: Turning bowls in green and dry wood using ring tools and gouges.
Michael Lee Michael Lee, Kapolei, HI. As a self-employed studio artist, Michael specializes in production pieces as well as one- of- a -kind sculptural vessels. His inspiration is derived through nature as a source for texture, form and motion.
