The Chapters and Membership Committee of the American Association of Woodturners announced new rules for Chapter Collaborative Challenge 2000 slated for Charlotte, NC in conjunction with the Fourteenth Annual AAW Symposium, June 30-July 2, 2000.

"Let the word go out far and wide that the maximum size of the assembled work must be smaller than a two foot cube and weigh less than 25 pounds," said Committee Chairman Clay Foster. "It should be noted that these size and weight restrictions are different from last year's challenge," he added.

Each AAW chapter was invited to submit one collaborative work created by as many chapter members as possible. There had to be at least six participants collaborating on the project to qualify, and all participants' names must appear on the work.

Foster urged all chapter leaders and members to give serious thought to entering the challenge. "Not only does this event reflect the creativity of the participants, but I feel that, collectively, it will make the definitive statement as to the energy, health and prosperity of woodturning as we enter the new millennium," he said.

Other rules adopted for the Challenge 2000 event required at least one chapter representative to be in attendance at the symposium to be responsible for displaying and return shipping of the entry.

Any electronic sound devices must have been clearly labeled volume control and on/off switch.

Symposium attendees will vote for their favorite pieces, with awards given for: First Place, Second Place, Third Place and three Honorable Mention Awards. Winners will be announced during the Symposium banquet.

There will be a silent auction for those chapters who wish to donate their entry to the Education Fund Auction. The chapter may set a minimum opening bid for their work. Donating to the auction is not required, but is gratefully appreciated. Chapters should supply a shipping box and packing materials for work that is donated to the auction.
