The 1997 Eleventh Annual AAW National Symposium at the Municipal
Auditorium in San Antonio, Texas, is open to anyone with an interest in
woodturning.
Demonstrations: Friday morning will start with opening remarks at 9
a.m., followed by demonstrations given on a rotational basis for three days
(last rotation ends at 5 p.m. on Sunday). International, national, regional,

Trade Show: Leading manufacturers and suppliers will display tools,
equipment, and supplies of particular interest to woodturners.
Instant Gallery: This wonderful tradition of past symposiums is open to all
attendees. Please bring up to three of your own turned creations to share
with others. It will be open to the public and the community, as well as the
symposium participants. Sunday morning there will be a critique led by

Bulletin Board and Photo Wall: A bulletin board is available for people to
post messages. Also a photo wall‹anyone is welcome to bring pictures of
interesting or humorous lathes, jigs, tips, or turnings. Also, bring copies
of your chapter newsletter to share.
Spouse/Family Activities: For non-turners at the Symposium, several
daily chartered tours have been scheduled:
- Friday: Highlights of San Antonio ($30/person).
- Saturday: San Antonio: the Venice of Texas. Lunch included ($46/person).
- Sunday: Fredericksburg: The Jewel of the Hill Country ($31.50/person).
A detailed registration form will be sent when you register for the
symposium.
Spouse Attendance: We have included a special spouse rate of $110, that
will allow spouses the opportunity to attend the conference at a reduced
rate. NOTE: This is not a required registration fee simply to bring your
spouse to the conference; this rate was created in response to numerous
requests to allow one¹s spouse to attend some or all of the demonstrations.

during the traveling window several days on either side of the symposium.

- 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.‹Show Opening: Turned for Use at the San Antonio
Museum of Art, with an introductory talk by juror Steve Loar. Trolley
service to SAMA will be provided.
- Saturday, July 19, 1997:
- 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.‹Social hour, followed by the Banquet/Auction at 7:00 p.m.
Directions to the Municipal Auditorium and the San Antonio Museum of Art
will come with your confirmation package. A detailed demonstration
schedule for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will come with the registration
packet on-site.
