Past Symposia: 1987 through 2009

  • 2009 - Albuquerque, NM: 23rd Annual AAW Symposium at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
  • 2008 - Richmond, VA: 22nd Annual AAW Symposium at the Richmond Convention Center.
  • 2007 - Portland, Oregon:21st Annual AAW Symposium at the Oregon Convention Center.
  • 2006 - Louisville, Kentucky: 20th Annual AAW Symposium at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville.
  • 2005- Overland Park, Kansas: 19th Annual AAW Symposium at the Overland Park Convention Center in Overland Park. The annual banquet and auction raised over $68,000 for the Educational Opportunity Grant (EOG) fund.
  • 2004- Orlando, Florida:18th Annual AAW Symposium at the Caribe Royale Hotel in Orlando. The annual banquet and auction raised over $48,000 for the equal opportunity grant (EOG) educational fund. The AAW special exhibit From Sea to Odyssey was held in conjunction with the symposium.
  • 2003- Pasadena, California: 17th Annual AAW Symposium at the Pasadena Conference Center in Pasadena. Two joint woodturning exhibits were held in conjunction with the Symposium: the Glendale Woodturners' Guild Trees to Treasures and the AAW Put A Lid On It at the Brand Library Art Gallery.
  • 2002- Providence, Rhode Island: 16th Annual AAW Symposium at Rhode Island Convention Center. The Annual Banquet and Auction raised over $32,000 for the educational fund at the Symposium.
  • 2001- St. Paul, Minnesota:15th Annual AAW Symposium at Touchstone Energy Place at Rivercentre. The inspired by nature exhibit, Nature Takes a Turn, was held several blocks away at the Minnesota Museum of American Art.
  • 2000- Charlotte, North Carolina: 14th Annual AAW Symposium at the Charlotte Convention Center. A major exhibit of woodturnings, The Mason Collection, was held several blocks away at the Mint Museum of Art and Craft on Tryon Street.
  • 1999 - Tacoma, Washington:13th Annual AAW Symposium at the Tacoma Convention Center and Tacoma Sheraton Hotel. Associated exhibitions included the East Meets West show at the Tacoma Public Library.
  • 1998 - Akron, Ohio:12th Annual AAW Symposium at the John S. Knight Convention Center in Akron, Ohio. Pathways '98 exhibition was cosponsored by AAW at Cleveland State University.
  • 1997 - San Antonio, Texas: 11th Annual AAW Symposium, A Turning Fiesta! - July 18-20, 1997 in San Antonio, Texas at the Municipal Auditorium. A special gallery exhibition, Turned for Use was held in conjunction with the symposium.
  • 1996 - Greensboro, North Carolina: Turning Ten, at the Koury Convention Center, The 10th annual symposium of the AAW. An exhibition of woodturnings Growth Through Sharing was held at the Guilford College Museum of Art in Greensboro, North Carolina.
  • 1995 - Davis, California: 9th Annual AAW symposium. UC-Davis
  • 1994 - Fort Collins, Colorado: 8th Annual AAW Symposium. Colorado State University Turning Discoveries.
  • 1993 - Purchase, New York: 7th Annual AAW Symposium. SUNY-Purchase.
  • 1992 - Provo, Utah: 6th Annual AAW Symposium. Brigham Young University.
  • 1991 - Texas: 5th Annual AAW Symposium. University of North Texas
  • 1990 - Gatlinburg, Tennessee: 4th Annual AAW Symposium. Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts Then President, Alan Lacer wrote about the event in the December 1990 issue of American Woodturner. One highlight of this symposium was the raising of the two totems on the Arrowmont campus. They are still standing there today.
  • 1989 - Seattle, Washington: 3rd AAW Symposium '89, October 13-15, 1999. Then AAW President David Ellsworth wrote about it in the December 1989 issue of American Woodturner.
  • 1988 - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: 2nd Annual AAW Symposium. Form, Function, and Fantasy, September 15-17, 1988.
  • 1987 - Lexington, Kentucky: 1st AAW Symposium
