Other info: A cretaceous inspired critter. While turning, a lead bullet about the size of a 45 slug was found lodged in his back and is still visible. Maybe he should be a leadback? Finished with textures on almost all surfaces and acrylic paint. He will always be a great conversation piece.

Other info: Based on Maori generic tattoo designs sometimes intended to intimidate the opposition but when combined into an integrated design the warm tactile walnut gives the piece a lovely feel and interesting look. The textured portion is ebonized and completely finished with multiple coats of polyurethane.

Title: Oriental Shrine

Other info: Made from one piece of spalted elm. This design represents a collection of memories from a trip to Japan several years ago. It was never intended to accurately depict the incorporated components but a person viewing this piece will recognize several traditional Japanese architectural/design influences. Finished with MX dye, acrylics, and polyurethane to achieve an ancient, weathered look.

Other info: Rahador (local Mexican name) is one of the most beautiful burls I have had the opportunity to work with.
We may not go to other suns but the concept of a tiny space ship carrying genetic seed material may make it possible? Could be that is how we got here. In the far distant future, docking stations may look very organic.... This piece won First Place in a national art competition held by The Visual Arts Society of Texas (VAST) in 2008.

Title: Black Medusa

Other info: Below the light level in the deep ocean dwells a two inch long creature called the Black Medusa. My version is much larger and contains 66 tentacles set in the textured body. A separate base depicts several tentacles after they have grasped some unsuspecting lunch.
