Other info: This is one of a series of platters with burnt rims. Using a torch, I bring fire back to the redwood, symbolic of it's symbiotic relationship with fire, until the wood blisters slightly, creating texture. The Danish oil finish fixes the burn so it does not rub off.

Other info: This natural-edge piece came from a 6400 pound root burl, the biggest we have ever had. Parts of the bottom of the burl were spalted nearly beyond use, becoming more pure as I worked up the burl, giving each piece a variation of colors and markings.
