Password/Username

What is my username?
The first time you sign in, in most case your user name will be set to your email address. (If we do not have your email address on record, your user name is a number.) If you would like to use a different username, you may change it as follows:

  • Sign in to as a member.
  • Select "Manage Profile.”
  • Under "Information & Settings,” select "Edit Bio.”
  • To change your username, click "(change)” after your current username.

My old password doesn’t work. How do I reset my password? Why did it have to change?
Because the new website has enhanced security and privacy features to protect your personal information, it was necessary to reset all member password information.

  • You can reset your password at http://www.woodturner.org/general/email_pass.asp
  • Once submitted, an reset message will be sent to the email address on file.
  • You must click on the link in the email message and follow the instructions to successfully reset your password.
  • If you do not receive the email within a few minutes, please check your "junk" and "spam" folders.

How do I change my username and password? Can I choose my own username and password?

  • Sign in to as a member.
  • Select "Manage Profile.”
  • Under "Information & Settings,” select "Edit Bio.”
  • To change your username, click "(change)” after your current username.
  • To change your password, click "(change)” in the password field.

Why is my password hidden when I type it in?
Because the new website has enhanced security features to protect your personal information, your password will never be visible.

Membership Renewal

How do I renew my membership?
You may renew you membership securely online up to 120-days before your membership expiration date. When you sign in to the website during this period of time, you will receive a reminder message reminding you to renew you membership and providing you with a link to the renewal form.
  • You may check your membership status after sign in.
  • Click "Manage Profile.”
  • Scroll down to the "Invoicing, Payments & History” section and click, "Membership.”
  • You can see you membership status and print a membership card.

Groups

What is a group? Should I join a group?
Groups are virtual associations of members that are based on common criteria or interest. Groups are organized for chapters, as well as for turning specialties. Over time, AAW expects that more groups will form. The purpose of a group is to help facilitate easy communication and sharing of information between members who share interests or other criteria.
  • Any AAW member may join any group.
  • Each member is assigned to one or more groups, however members are not associated with the group until they “join” the group.
  • Only group administrators may send messages to group members. For chapters, administrators are the four officers who are AAW members.
How do I join a group?
  • To join a group, sign in with your username and password.
  • Go to “Services" on the main menu.
  • Select “Groups” from the dropdown menu.
  • If you would like to associate with a chapter group or view chapter groups, select “AAW Chapter.” An alphabetical list of chapters will be displayed.
  • To refine this list, you may type in a keyword, such as the complete name of the state, in the field “Find a Group” and click the blue “Find” button. A list of groups matching the criteria you entered will be displayed.
  • Click on the name of the group to view the group’s profile page.
  • Once you have identified the group you would like to join, go to the group profile page and click “Join Group” in the area just below the group name.

Important Note to Chapter Group Page Administrators: If you are a chapter page administrator, you are able to edit your member profile and your chapter profile. Make certain you know which profile (member or chapter) you are editing before making changes. For chapters, be careful not to accidentally delete or un-check critical chapter information such as chapter name, states, etc. which will impact chapter searchability.

Forum Settings

I
am a registered user of the AAW Member Forum. Why do the “Forum Settings” on the “Manage Profile” screen indicate that I am not currently subscribed to any forums or forum topics? This is confusing.
The “Forum Settings” on the “Manage Profile” module of the website are not connected with the AAW Member Forum. They are completely different systems that share the word, "forum." (The “Forum Settings” on the “Manage Profile” module of the website have been disabled and do not function.)

Why don't my new website sign in credentials work for the AAW Forum?
Your AAW website credentials will not work on the AAW Member Forum which is a separate member-moderated module. If you are already a registered AAW Member Forum user, please continue to use those credentials to login to the Forum. New AAW Member Forum users may sign up for the forum at http://www.aawforum.org/vbforum/register.php

Cancel Button

Where is the "Cancel" button?

I attempted to make a change on my member profile and received a message,"You entered your current username! If you do not wish to change your username at this time, simply click the Cancel button below" - but there is no "Cancel" button on the page. This is not intuitive and we apologize. Please click the button labeled, "Do not change username" instead.

Privacy and Visibility

How do I manage my profile and privacy settings? How can I make my member information private?
These features are for AAW members only.

  • Select "Manage Profile.”
  • Under "Information & Settings,” select "Edit Bio.”
  • Your member profile will be displayed.
  • Review and edit "Account Information” and "Personal Information” sections as needed.
  • Required fields are marked with *.  The other information you share is your choice.
  • You may edit your privacy/visibility settings using the following icons (to the left of each information field):

Visible to everyone. Visible to no one. Visible to AAW members only.

  • To edit your privacy/visibility settings, click each icon once and select your new visibility preference from the gray box displayed.

Security

Is my online store purchase secure?
The AAW is committed to data security with respect to information collected on its site. The AAW offers the industry standard security measures available through your browser called SSL encryption to transmit credit card information to the AAW's bank payment processing database. Your credit card information is never stored on AAW servers. You may contact the AAW office if you are concerned with online commerce.

Membership Card

Why doesn’t my membership start date show on my membership card?
Currently, only your membership expiration date appears on your membership card.

How do I print my membership card?

  • Sign in with your AAW username and password.
  • Click on "Manage Profile.”
  • In the "Information & Settings” section, click "Membership Card.”
  • A pop-up window will display your Membership Card. Click the blue "Print” button.

Chapter Search

The problems with the Chapter Search functions have been corrected.

Important Note to Chapter Page Administrators:
If you are a chapter page administrator, you are able to edit your member profile and your chapter profile. Make certain you know which profile (member or chapter) you are editing before making changes. For chapters, be careful not to accidentally delete or un-check critical chapter information such as chapter name, states, etc. which will impact chapter searchability.

How do I find an AAW local chapter in my area?

To find an AAW chapter in your area:

  • Hover over "About” on the main menu and select "Chapters” then "Find a Chapter” from the dropdown menu.
  • Click the "Find a Chapter” icon.
  • Select your state or province from the "Chapter area served” dropdown menu.
  • Press "Continue” and the results of your search will be displayed.
  • If you do not know the name of the chapter, search by "Chapter area served” (state/province).

Directories

Why can’t I see the AAW member directories?
Access to the AAW member directories is a members-only benefit. Members must sign in in order to access the directory information. To become an AAW member, visit http://aaw.site-ym.com/general/register_member_type.asp?

When I search the Chapter directory I get a message "No records matched your search criteria." I know there's more than one AAW Chapter in my state. What's wrong?
The Chapter directories are not currently working correctly. We are aware of the problems and are working with our software developer to resolve the issues. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I just updated the professional information in my member profile but discovered that my information was not updated in the directories. What happened? What should I do?
Member profile changes do not immediately update online directories which are re-indexed very eight hours. Any member profile changes will update the directories during the next re-index process. Member profile changes will be searchable in directories only after the daily directory re-index process is completed.

File Downloads

I'm having trouble downloading an AAW publication.  I receive an error message, “The file is damaged and could not be repaired.” What can I do?

Sometimes a PDF file becomes damaged while downloading due to hiccups in internet connectivity especially in lengthy downloads.

  • Try downloading the PDF again.
  • If this does not work, go to the file you are attempting to download, right click your mouse and select, ”Save Link As” and copy the file to your hard drive.
Find the file on your hard-drive and right click. Select “Open with Adobe Reader.
  • If this does not work, we apologize for the inconvenience. Please contact us and ask us to email you the file

Location

What do you mean by location?
On the AAW website, "Location” refers to state, province, etc.
