QUICK LINKS
AAW Woodturning Calendar

November 1, 2017

Hello Chapter Officer:

You're a chapter officer and the AAW would like to keep you informed, as well as offer you valuable woodturning content that can be shared with your members. We truly appreciate your continued participation and support.

VIDEO TIP TO SHARE
We invite you to share AAW's new Total Experience video tip with your chapter members at an upcoming meeting. Each new video in the Total Experience series includes a brief AAW message and a useful woodturning tip.

This month's tip is, "Sharpening and Using the Microbevel," featuring Jimmy Clewes (TRT 10:08). In this video, Jimmy demonstrates how to create a micro bevel to improve the cuts inside your platter or bowl.

To effectively share the video with chapter members, you'll need a bit of technology at your meeting site.

CRAFT SCHOOL
SCHOLARSHIPS
It's scholarship time! AAW will award tuition scholarships to selected AAW chapter members for 2018 courses at either Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, Gatlinburg, TN, or John C. Campbell Folk School, Brasstown, NC. Scholarship nominees must be current AAW members and be chosen through a process authorized by their AAW chapter officers. Room, board, and travel expenses are the responsibility of the scholarship recipient. Chapters must provide the names of nominees, the number of chapter members, and the number of AAW members in the chapter, using the online application not later than January 7, 2018. Winners will be notified by January 21, 2018. For more information, nomination instructions, and to apply, click here.

ARTICLE TO SHARE
We encourage you to share in your chapter newsletter the following article, "Box Lid Alignment Pin," by Alan Falk, from the October 2017 issue of American Woodturner. Perhaps you've worked hard to line up the beautiful grain pattern so it flows continuously from box to lid. Does it bother you when the grain is askew? Solution: An unobtrusive pin affixed at the box/lid juncture "clicks" the lid into place at the proper grain orientation. Find out how!
