We look forward to seeing you in June for the AAW's 29th Annual International Symposium.
 
To help you make the most of your experience in Pittsburgh, here's a list of things you'll want to consider as you plan your trip.

 

 


 

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Guests of Omni William Penn Hotel

You'll want to sign-up in advance for the Omni Select Guest program, which offers free 3 MG guestroom Wi-Fi, as well as complimentary morning beverage delivery, pressing of two items, bottled water on the night of arrival, a shoe shine, newspaper of your choice daily, and other benefits. Pre-enrollment prior to arrival is required to get free Wi-Fi. Attendees may enroll here.


SYMPOSIUM CHECK LIST

Make, bring along, and display up to three pieces of turned work in the Instant Gallery

which will feature more than 1,000 works in wood by woodturners of all skill levels who are attending the symposium.

Make hotel arrangements as soon as possible

because hotel rooms are filling quickly.

Create, bring along, and donate a turned work

to be sold in a silent auction to support AAW's  Educational Opportunity Grant (EOG) program, which provides individual turners, students, local chapters, and educational organizations with funding for turning-related education.
 
Preregister your donated work



Turn, bring along, and donate a bowl

of any size to the AAW's Empty Bowls initiative, to benefit Variety the Children’s Charity of Pittsburgh, which offers adaptive and assistive technologies to help children with disabilities be as independent as possible.


Make, bring along, and donate a handmade lidded box

to hold the beads of a child coping with serious illness through Beads of Courage.

Bring along and donate surplus and lightly-used woodturning tools

to help Turners Without Borders initiative continue to implement global woodturning initiatives.

Preregister a piece for the Chapter Collaborative Challenge.

Preregister

Sign up a non-turner spouse, partner or adult guest for companion program/craft room

activities while you attend symposium rotations and demonstrations.

Sign up to help.

Volunteer work can be a great way to give back and get acquainted with others. Many of the opportunities don’t even require turning skills and are perfect for an adult guest or spouse.

Sign up a child or grandchild ages 10 to 18 for free Youth Room

hands-on woodturning instruction and rotations. They'll have an opportunity to win a complete turning package and gain skills that will last a lifetime. Space is limited and preregistration is required.
