We received the sad news from Stuart Batty, that his father Allan Batty, legendary artist and woodturner, has passed away. Our hearts go out to Stuart, and Allan's family and friends.
Here are words from Stuart:
"My dad Allan Batty died today peacefully in his sleep. It's hard for me to put it into words my gratitude for the knowledge my dad taught me when I was just a boy. We have all missed his entertaining woodturning demonstration over the recent years. The last time we both demonstrated together was in Oregon all most five years ago. My dad has not demonstrated since due to illness. I'm boarding a plane right now and will post more later about my incredible dad."
I had the privilege of being at the last demo that Allan and Stuart did in Oregon. I never met a nicer person or a more talented turner and demonstrator. My heart goes out to his family. They will be in our prayers.
The world has lost a great talent.
I am sorry for your great loss. I attended quite a few of your fathers demonstrations and attending the Ripon Symposiums that he organised. Your father was well loved in England and will be sadly missed by many.
Did not meet Allan. But attended a demonstration that Stuart did at the Phoenix symposium. Your description of your father and the obvious love and respct that you had for him. Leaves no doubt that he was a great mentor and father. Wishing your family the best.
Stuart, my prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this time of passing of your father. Allen Batty enriched us all with his gifts of woodturning and his wonderful personality that has left a lasting legacy on all our hearts. May God bless you with His peace and comfort through this period of loss. Pat Harris - Lexington, SC
