Every year, Beads of Courage provides assistance to more than 60,000 sick children coping with serious and life-threatening illnesses, and their families - in more than 250 children’s hospitals throughout the United States, and in six additional countries. Once enrolled in the program, children are given a bead for each procedure they undergo. The American Association of Woodturners, and Prescott Area Woodturners, as a part of AAW, create and donate lidded boxes in which the children may keep their beads.
The varied boxes arrayed were displayed at the Desert Woodturning Roundup, a biennial symposium in Mesa, Arizona, sponsored by the Arizona Woodturning Association. Each box is as unique as the craftsman/artist who made it, and as unique as each brave patient who will receive it.
