WMTW PORTLAND: Southern Maine Woodturners, Wood turners carve bowls for good cause

A group of amateur wood turners will be carving bowls this weekend to raise money for the Good Shepherd Food Bank.

They're part of what is becoming a popular hobby in Maine.

"If I did if for a living, it would probably be a job instead of fun," Mark Irving of Southern Maine Wood Turners said.

Irving discovered wood turning a few years ago.

The Southern Maine Wood Turners have 100 members and meet regularly to promote their art.

After discovering his passion for wood turning, Irving invested in his own lathe and set of tools.
