The AAW elects a nine-member Board to volunteer their time and energy to represent the membership in moving the AAW forward. If you have been a member in good standing for the past three years, you are eligible to run.
Board of Directors Annual Call for nominees...
The nominating committee will select six qualified candidates from those who volunteer. Members will choose from these six and elect three new Board members each year to serve a three-year term, beginning January of each year. Information on Board Member duties is available in the AAW Resource Directory. You may also call or email any current Board Director for details.
If you are interested in serving on the Board, send the following information to the Executive Director by email no later than May 1 2011:
1. A statement of intent, including qualifications and reasons for applying.
2. Letters of recommendation from two individuals who can affirm your organizational and leadership abilities.
3. A photograph of yourself.
The nominating committee will review application materials and schedule phone interviews in May and early June. Six candidates for the three open Board seats will be presented in the journal, ballots will be sent out in the fall, and election results will be announced later in the year.
Approximate time requirements for a Board of Directors member...
Three face to face board meetings each year, expenses paid by the AAW. One Board meeting will be in conjunction with the annual Symposium extending the (normally in June) meeting (including the Symposium) to about 10 days. The other two annual meetings are usually Friday till Sunday PM. About 2 hrs on a conference call the first of most months. Checking e-mail daily. Keeping up with Web site information. Serving on 2 or 3 committees and chairing no more than 2 (see By Laws and Policies). This work runs in spurts but averages about 1 to 3 hours per day.
Additionally, we feel it is our responsibility, as Board members, to interact with our membership by attending club functions and mini symposiums whenever possible.
