Best Local Chapter Newsletter Contest
Please send contest questions to the AAW office. Put "2010 Newsletter Contest question" in subject line of your email.
A) Contest submissions:
- Local Chapters newsletter editors or a Chapter officer must submit their newsletters for the competition.
- Chapters who wish to enter their newsletter in this year's competition must do so by email. Postal Service (snail-mail) entries will not be accepted.
- To enter, send email to the AAW office.
- Please put "Entry for 2010 Newsletter Contest" in the subject line of your email.
- Include the following information with your email submission: Send a link only to your four best newsletters from the past year. Do not send any of the four newsletters themselves; the file sizes will overwhelm the judges' computers! Please include the issue dates, Local Chapter Name as well as the name and contact information for your editor in the email.
- You will receive an
email verification that the submission was received. If you do not receive the email verification,
please re-send your initial email or send a query to the AAW office.
B) Evaluation Process
Three Chapters will be chosen as winners (first, second, third) based on ranking from the judging criteria listed below. The judges for the newsletter contest will be two AAW Board members, as well as winning editors from past newsletter contests. The 2009 newsletter winners were Montgomery County Woodturners, Chicago Woodturners, and Greater Vancouver Woodturners. Read their newsletters to get a general idea of what it takes to put together an excellent newsletter.
C) Eligibility
- Newsletters must be published between March 1, 2009 and March 31, 2010
- The Chapter must be registered as an AAW Chapter with the St Paul office
- Email submissions must be made by April 1, 2010
D) Prizes
- Winners will be announced by mid May, 2010.
- Announcements will be made through:
- the AAW website and forum
- the American Woodturner
- and recognized at the 2010 Symposium
- Winning Chapters will receive a plaque commemorating their achievement.

Put "2010 Website Contest question" in subject line of your email.
A) Contest submissions:
- Local Chapter webmasters or a Chapter officer must submit their site for the competition.
- Each Chapter who submits a site must provide a reviewer volunteer who will evaluate the websites of up to five other Chapter entries.
- To enter, send e-mail the AAW webmaster.
- Please put "Entry for 2010 Website Contest" in the subject line of your email.
- Include your Chapter name, webmaster's name, webmaster's contact info, website address, and the name/contact info for your Chapter's volunteer evaluator.
- If your Chapter's site has security access features, please include a temporary password for the judge's use.
- You will receive an
email verification that the submission was received. If you do not receive the email verification,
please re-send your initial email or send a query to the webmaster.
B) Evaluation Process
Three sites will be chosen as winners (first, second, third place) based on the judging criteria listed in section "E" (below). Judging will be done by volunteer reviewers assigned
from Chapters, as described above.

- Websites must be on line and available for viewing by April 1, 2010
- They must have a link to the AAW home page from their home page
- The Chapter must be registered as an AAW Chapter with the St Paul office
- Email submissions must be made by April 1, 2009.
D) Prizes:
- Winners will be announced by mid May, 2010.
- Announcements will be made through:
- the AAW website and forum
- the American Woodturner
