Exhibits

Waves of Grain: Juried Member Exhibit
From the fertile fields of the Heartland to the richness of wood’s natural patterns, the works featured in “Waves of Grain” reflect the responsive creativity and talent of AAW’s membership. The exhibition, including both invited and juried artists, showcases the wide range of ideas, techniques, and approaches being developed by both amateur and professional turners.

The Sphere – Second Round: AAW’s Professional Outreach Program (POP) 2017 Juried Exhibition

A lively, international mix of smaller-scale works by established and emerging wood artists. While the title theme might bring to mind visions of wooden billiard balls, the works in the exhibition showcase wonderfully imaginative and very individual interpretations; ranging from wryly humorous, to highly personal, to apocalyptic.

Ron Fleming
This year, POP honors Oklahoma artist Ron Fleming, a founding member of the AAW and a gifted sculptor, turner, and graphic artist. The POP Merit Award is given to an artist whose body of work and career has contributed significantly to the growth of woodturning as an art form, and the wide scope of Ron’s influence is easily seen in this retrospective exhibition. Previous recipients include Giles Gilson, Stephen Hogbin, Mark Lindquist, Merryll Saylan, David Ellsworth, Richard Raffan, Clay Foster, and Jacques Vesery.

Artist Showcase: Professional Outreach Program (POP)

The 2017 POP Artist Showcase features sculptor Keith Holt of Maryland and Minnesota artist Jim Sannerud. Keith is known for multi-axis pieces and for fluid, figurative work that is inspired by physical grace and inner spirit. Greenwood turner Jim uses the lathe and hand tools to create contemporary work with an echo of traditional Nordic culture. Both artists will be giving talks and demonstratiions.

Instant Gallery

The AAW Symposium’s Instant Gallery is the largest display of turned-wood objects under one roof! The open member show features more than 1,000 art works and crafts in wood by woodturners who attending the Symposium. Many of the works are for sale.
