Craft /Companion Program

Tour

Powell Botanical Gardens

Date: Saturday, June 24, 2017
Time: 10:00am to 3:00pm

Cost: $45 (includes admission and transportation only)

Reservations: Reservations must be made in advance.

 

Powell Gardens is a 970 acre plot of land featuring 6,000 varieties of plants, with 225,000 plants in seasonal displays. The day trip begins at 10:00am by boarding the San Francisco style trolley limousine. The trip to Powell gardens takes about 30 minutes. Upon arrival, you will be met by your tour guides where you will board the Garden Trolley for a narrated ride to the Marjorie Powell Allen Chapel and Perennial Garden. You will also have an opportunity to visit the Conservatory and Terrace Gardens, Island Garden, the Rock & Waterfall Garden. You can grab a bite to eat in the cafe and explore the gift shop before boarding the trolley for the return trip to the hotel. Hotel arrival approximately 3:00 p.m.

 


Crafts

The AAW Companion Craft Program will offer non-turner attendees a variety of craft projects.

Class Descriptions

Arm Knitting Without Needles - Carol Ellis

Carol will teach crafters how to knit using your arms so you too, can knit a cowl in a morning. She will provide everything you need except your arms. You will need to bring those. Carol has been hand and machine knitting for more than 20 years and serves on the Board of Directors for the Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council. Cost $15.00 - Payable at time of class.

Bracelet in Copper or Sterling Silver - Sue Bergstrand

Sue will work with crafters to make a bracelet of handmade chain with four bead stations.The beads are dyed agate and a few color choices will be available. Sue has been silversmithing for more than 20 years, and has served the Sterling Guild of Greater Kansas City in various officer positions for many years. Cost $4.00 for copper and $14.00 for sterling silver – Payable at time of clas.

  • Rotation 8: Saturday, June 24th 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm

Rings or Earrings – Lisa Coyan

Lisa will work with crafters to make a wire wrapped ring, determining ring size, positioning the bead, and coiling the wire to form the ring. For crafters who want to make a pair of earrings, Lisa will teach them how to make a wrapped loop and work with earrings findings to complete the project. Lisa has been designing jewelry for more than 13 years. She has won multiple awards on her designs and donates 10% of each sale to Breast Cancer Research. Cost $10.00 – Payable at time of class.

  • Rotation 7: Earrings-Saturday, June 24th 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm

Pressed Flower Cards - Pat McCartney

Pat will work with crafters to make pressed flower cards to send to friends using real flowers and greens.  Crafters will make three cards complete with envelopes using flowers that Pat pressed from her gardens. Pat has been working with pressed flowers for 25 years and shares her craft with nursing home residents in Olathe and Overland Park Kansas. Cost $5.00 – Payable at time of class.

  • Rotation 10: Sunday, June 25th, 11:00 am to 12:30 pm

Volunteer Opportunities
